A rich, smoky, sweet, and tangy barbecue sauce made from pantry staples. Better than anything from a bottle and ready in under 20 minutes.

- 240 ml tomato ketchup
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp onion powder
- 0.5 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- 0.5 tsp salt
Steps
- 1Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan.
- 2Whisk together over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- 3Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- 4Taste and adjust — add more vinegar for tang, more sugar for sweetness, or more hot sauce for heat.
- 5Cool to room temperature before serving. Stores in the fridge for 2 weeks.
