Traditional Orthodox Easter red eggs and rainbow-dyed variations – a symbolic ritual of faith, rebirth and celebration.

Ingredients

Serves:12
  • 12 pcs eggs (white)
  • 1 sachet red food colouring
  • 2 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp cooking oil
  • 1 l water

Steps

  1. 1Hard-boil eggs gently for 10 minutes; cool slightly, do not fully cool.
  2. 2Dissolve red food colouring in hot water with vinegar.
  3. 3Submerge warm eggs in the dye bath for 5–10 minutes.
  4. 4Remove and wipe with a cloth dipped in oil for shine.
  5. 5For other colours, use separate colour baths.
  6. 6Store in a bowl at room temperature; the first cracked egg on Easter morning brings luck.
