The iconic Chinese-American dipping sauce — a perfect balance of tangy vinegar, sweet pineapple, and umami ketchup. Ready in 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 120 ml pineapple juice
  • 60 ml rice vinegar
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder

Steps

  1. 1Combine pineapple juice, rice vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, soy sauce, and garlic powder in a small saucepan.
  2. 2Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. 3Mix cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry.
  4. 4Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring constantly.
  5. 5Cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce turns glossy and thickened. Serve warm.
