A three-layer shot from the late 1970s — coffee liqueur, Irish cream and Grand Marnier floated one on another; the densest goes in first and a slow pour over a spoon keeps the stripes clean.

Steps

  1. 1
Chill the three liqueurs beforehand; cold liqueurs are thicker and layer more cleanly.
  2. 2
Pour the coffee liqueur into a tall shot glass — as the densest, it always goes first.
  3. 3
Hold a bar spoon upside down just above the coffee layer, touching the inside of the glass, and pour the Irish cream very slowly over its back.
  4. 4
Raise the spoon to just above the cream and pour the orange liqueur the same way to form the top layer.
  5. 5
Serve at once, before the layers begin to bleed into each other.
