Good Friday (Holy Friday) is the day on which Orthodox Christians commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on the cross. It falls on the Friday before Easter and is one of the most solemn days of Holy Week. On this day believers keep a strict fast, the Epitaphios (a shroud representing Christ's body) is displayed in churches, and the bells toll slowly. By tradition women dye the Easter eggs, with the first red egg kept for health and protection throughout the year. Good Friday is an official non-working day in Bulgaria.
