Meatfare Memorial Saturday (Mesna Zadushnitsa)

About

Mesna (Meatfare, or Winter) Memorial Saturday — the first of the three great memorial Saturdays of the year, on the Saturday before Meatfare Sunday (Mesni Zagovezni). Orthodox Christians honour their departed relatives: they visit and tidy the graves, light candles and hand out boiled wheat, bread and wine for the souls of the dead, and churches hold a general memorial service.
