November 1st is the Day of the National Awakeners, honouring the Bulgarian educators, writers, clergy, and cultural figures of the National Revival era (18th–19th century) who fought to preserve Bulgarian identity, language and Orthodox faith under Ottoman rule. Schools, theatres, and municipalities hold commemorative events and readings to celebrate their legacy.
