May 6th combines two important celebrations: Gergiovden — the feast of St. George the Dragon Slayer, one of the most beloved Bulgarian Orthodox namedays — and the Day of Bravery and the Bulgarian Armed Forces. Military parades and ceremonial events honour soldiers, and families roast whole lamb as tradition demands.
