Frequently asked questions

What is ideal weight?

Ideal (or desirable) weight is a reference estimate of a healthy weight for your height. Formulas differ slightly, so we show four plus the BMI healthy range.

Which formula is most accurate?

There is no single "most accurate" formula — they are statistical estimates. The healthy BMI range (18.5–24.9) is the most widely used guide.

Does it account for muscle mass?

No. These formulas use only height and sex. Muscular people can be healthy above their "ideal" weight — body-fat % is a better measure for them.
