Frequently asked questions

How is the distance calculated?

We use the great-circle (haversine) formula — the shortest distance over the Earth’s surface between the two cities’ coordinates ("as the crow flies"). Real road or rail distance is longer.

Is the flight time accurate?

It is approximate — the great-circle distance divided by a typical cruise speed (~800 km/h) plus about 30 minutes for taxi, take-off and landing. Actual time depends on the aircraft, winds and route.

Why is the distance the same both ways?

Straight-line distance is symmetric — A to B equals B to A. We publish both pages, but the value is identical.
