Steps
Steps
- 1Heat the oven to 180°C/350°F and grease a 25 × 35 cm baking dish with a little of the butter.
- 2Cook the macaroni in plenty of boiling water with the salt for 2 minutes less than the packet says — it finishes softening in the oven — then drain well.
- 3Melt the remaining butter and toss it through the hot macaroni so the pieces don't stick together.
- 4Stir in two-thirds of the sirene and spread the macaroni evenly in the dish.
- 5Beat the eggs with the milk, yoghurt and pepper and pour evenly over the macaroni; the liquid should come almost to the top layer without covering it.
- 6Scatter the rest of the sirene over the surface.
- 7Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the custard has set in the centre and the top is puffed and golden brown.
- 8Leave to settle for 10 minutes before cutting into squares, and serve warm or at room temperature.
