Simple average
Arithmetic mean — every grade counts equally. Right for term and yearly averages.
(sum of grades) ÷ count
Enter your grades on the Bulgarian 2–6 scale to get the average to two decimals — with the qualitative band and optional credit weighting.
Grades use the 2–6 scale. Values outside the range are ignored.
The qualitative band of an average is determined by the ranges below.
| Grade | Qualitative grade | Average range |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | Excellent (Отличен) | 5.50 – 6.00 |
| 5 | Very good (Много добър) | 4.50 – 5.49 |
| 4 | Good (Добър) | 3.50 – 4.49 |
| 3 | Average (Среден) | 3.00 – 3.49 |
| 2 | Poor / Fail (Слаб) | 2.00 – 2.99 |
Named grades: 2 — Poor (Fail), 3 — Average, 4 — Good, 5 — Very good, 6 — Excellent.
Arithmetic mean — every grade counts equally. Right for term and yearly averages.
(sum of grades) ÷ count
Each grade is multiplied by its credits/hours. Right for university ECTS averages.
Σ(grade × credits) ÷ Σ(credits)
It is the arithmetic mean of your grades: add every grade and divide by the number of grades. For example (6 + 5 + 5 + 4) ÷ 4 = 20 ÷ 4 = 5.00, reported to two decimal places.
Bulgaria uses a 2–6 scale: 2 — Poor (Слаб, fail), 3 — Average (Среден), 4 — Good (Добър), 5 — Very good (Много добър), 6 — Excellent (Отличен). 2 is the only failing grade.
Excellent — 5.50 to 6.00; Very good — 4.50 to 5.49; Good — 3.50 to 4.49; Average — 3.00 to 3.49; Poor — below 3.00. So an average of 5.49 is still "Very good", while 5.50 becomes "Excellent".
A simple average counts every grade equally. A weighted average multiplies each grade by its credits or hours and divides by the total weight — used at university, where courses carry different ECTS credit values.
Yes. Besides whole grades (2–6) you can enter term or yearly averages such as 5.50 or 4.33, and the calculator averages them correctly.
