Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
It depends on the country. In the US, 15–20% is customary at restaurants. In most of Europe, including Bulgaria, tipping is optional and usually 5–10% or rounding the bill up. Where a service charge is already included, an extra tip is not expected.
How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage divided by 100. For example, a 10% tip on 60 = 60 × 0.10 = 6, making the total 66.
Is the tip calculated before or after tax?
It is most often calculated on the total bill (including tax), since that is what you actually pay. This calculator applies the percentage to whatever amount you enter — enter the amount you want the tip based on.
How do I split the bill evenly between friends?
Choose the "Even split" mode, enter the total bill and the number of people. The calculator shows what each person owes, including their share of the tip. The "Round up" option makes each share a whole number.
What if everyone ordered different things?
Choose the "Custom amounts" mode and enter each person's amount. The tip is distributed proportionally to what each person ordered, so whoever ordered more pays a proportionally larger share of the tip.
