How much is Bulgarian sick pay?
The first 3 working days are at the employer's expense — 70% of the average daily gross pay. From the 4th working day НОИ pays 80% of the average daily insurable income over the last 18 months.
What changes for an occupational accident?
For an occupational accident or disease the benefit is 90% of the average daily insurable income, paid by НОИ from day one — with no employer share.
Who is eligible for sick pay?
You need 6 months of insurance record with sickness-and-maternity (ОЗМ) cover. The requirement is waived for persons under 18. Self-insured persons qualify only if they opted into ОЗМ contributions.
What income is the benefit based on?
The insurable income — for most employees the gross salary, capped at the maximum insurable income (€2112/month for 2026). High earners therefore receive noticeably less than their actual pay.
Is sick leave paid per calendar or working day?
Sick notes are issued in calendar days, but the benefit is due only for the working days in the period — which is why the calculator asks for working days.
