Frequently asked questions
What is an ISO 4217 currency code?
ISO 4217 is the international standard for three-letter currency codes (USD, EUR, GBP). The first two letters are usually the country code and the third is the currency's initial (e.g. USD = US + Dollar).
What is the difference between a currency symbol and a code?
The symbol is the graphical sign (€, $, £, ¥) used on prices; the code is the three-letter ISO 4217 identifier (EUR, USD, GBP) used in bank transfers and exchange quotes. Some symbols are shared (e.g. $ for several dollars), so the code is unambiguous.
Where does the data come from?
Codes follow the ISO 4217 standard. Converter rates come from the ECB (via Frankfurter). Everything runs in your browser.
