About the name Lyubomir
Etymology & meaning
Lyubomir is a Slavic compound of "lyubov" (love) and "mir" (peace) — "loving peace" or "love and peace". Lyuben, Lyuba, Lyubka and Lyubov itself share the nest.
History & patron saint
The love-root names celebrate on 17 September — the day of Saint Love, youngest daughter of Saint Sophia — together with Faith, Hope and Sofia; a second commemoration falls on 30 September. The name Lyuben was borne by the Revival classic Lyuben Karavelov.
Traditions & customs
The feast is shared by many names, so tables are large and lively; greetings inevitably turn on love and peace — "may love follow you and peace keep you".
Popularity & notable bearers
Lyubomir is a stable classic newly accelerating among newborns; the pet form Lyubo is universally recognised.
